A major disaster was narrowly avoided in Japan. A U-125A search and rescue aircraft belonging to the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) overran the runway during landing after a training flight.

According to a statement from the Niigata Airport Office, the incident occurred around 12:00 local time. The cause of the runway excursion has not yet been determined. Several fire crews were dispatched to the scene as a precaution.

Following the incident, runways A and B at the airport were temporarily closed to air traffic. Authorities reported that the five crew members on board were in good health, with no injuries or fire detected.

Officials announced that a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the incident.
