With the inclusion of new regions like Donbass and Novorossiya, Russia aims to build 14 new airports by 2030, bringing the total number of airports across the country to 242. This ambitious aviation project was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev during the “Development of the Airport Support Network” meeting.
Massive Investment and Modernization Projects
Savelyev revealed that a total of 250 billion rubles (approximately $3.3 billion) has been allocated for the modernization and construction of 75 priority airports as part of the project. Additionally, 100 billion rubles ($1.3 billion) in non-budgetary funds will be used through a concession mechanism for the reconstruction of 28 airports.
Locations of New Airports Yet to Be Announced
While details of the massive infrastructure project remain unclear, the specific cities where the new airports will be built have not been disclosed. However, this expansion is expected to boost Russia’s regional connectivity and strengthen the country’s strategic position in the aviation sector.
