Istanbul Airport ranked first as Europe’s busiest airport with an average of 1,447 daily flights between January 26 and February 1. The “European Aviation Report” published by the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) once again revealed Istanbul’s leadership in air traffic.
ISTANBUL AT THE TOP OF EUROPE
According to EUROCONTROL data, an average of 1,447 daily flights were operated at Istanbul Airport during the period in question. With this figure, Istanbul ranked first on the list of Europe’s busiest airports.
Istanbul Airport was followed by:
- London Heathrow – 1,235 daily flights,
- Paris Charles de Gaulle – 1,167 daily flights,
- Amsterdam Schiphol – 1,151 daily flights.
SABIHA GÖKÇEN ALSO IN THE TOP 10
Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, the second largest airport in Istanbul, also ranked high on the list. Sabiha Gökçen Airport became Europe’s 8th busiest airport with an average of 746 daily flights.
EMPHASIS ON GLOBAL AVIATION HUB
The fact that two airports in Istanbul simultaneously ranked high on the list of Europe’s busiest airports once again highlighted the city’s position as a global aviation hub and its strategic importance in air traffic.
