ASELSAN, Turkey’s defence electronics giant, has shared new test footage of the GÖKSUR close-in air defence system, developed to protect naval platforms against fast and low-flying threats. In the video published by ASELSAN on social media on Friday, the system is seen successfully destroying a high-speed, sea-skimming target with a direct hit.
Specially Designed Against Sea-Skimming Threats
GÖKSUR has been developed specifically to counter high-risk threats such as anti-ship and cruise missiles that fly very close to the sea surface. Challenges posed by these types of targets—due to their low radar cross-section and sudden manoeuvring capability—have been overcome with the AI-supported Advanced Fire Control System used in the system.
360-Degree Protection, Multi-Engagement and Next-Generation Guidance Technology
GÖKSUR stands out with the following capabilities:
- 360-degree threat elimination capacity
- High precision with IIR (imaging infrared) seeker
- Multi-target engagement and simultaneous tracking
- Mid-range guidance with two-way datalink
- High effectiveness against fast, sea-skimming targets
These features enable the system to deliver superior performance in low-altitude defence, which is critical in the modern naval combat environment.
Modular Design: Wide Integration Range from Frigates to Corvettes
The system has been designed with a fully modular architecture and can be easily integrated into frigates, corvettes, and other naval platforms. GÖKSUR can operate either integrated with the ship’s existing combat management system or independently as a standalone system.
Successful Tests in the Vertical Launch Version
ASELSAN has confirmed that the highly anticipated vertical launch (VLS) version of GÖKSUR has also successfully passed its tests. This configuration is expected to fill an important gap in Turkey’s multi-layered naval defence architecture.

The new-generation GÖKSUR system will play a strategic role especially in protecting Turkey’s maritime zones.
