The UK Receives Its 40th F-35B Lightning II

The United Kingdom has received the 40th of its ordered 48 F-35B Lightning II aircraft. Delivered to RAF Marham, the jet has strengthened joint air power.

The United Kingdom Adds the 40th F-35B Lightning II to Its Inventory

The United Kingdom has added the 40th F-35B Lightning II from the 48 aircraft ordered under the fifth-generation fighter programme to its inventory. With the delivery to RAF Marham, the joint air power capability of the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Royal Navy has been further strengthened.

According to information reported by the UK Defence Journal, the current distribution of the UK’s F-35 fleet is as follows:

With this delivery, the United Kingdom has enhanced its operational capacity on one of NATO’s advanced fifth-generation fighter platforms.

Future Plans

The UK Ministry of Defence announced that the fleet would be expanded after the initial order of 48 aircraft is completed. According to official documents, the plan is to procure 12 F-35As and 15 F-35Bs by 2033.

It has been noted that the F-35As could be used particularly for training and nuclear deterrence missions. In this way, the United Kingdom aims to elevate its joint operational capability across both air and naval platforms.
