EasyJet Aircraft Bound for Izmir Diverts Back Due to Medical Emergency

An EasyJet flight en route to Izmir was forced to return to Manchester Airport shortly after takeoff due to the need for urgent medical assistance. The incident occurred on Monday, 30 June.

Aircraft Returned Around One Hour After Departure

Flight EZY2159, operating from Manchester to Izmir, departed around 17:00 and was headed over Sheffield and Norfolk toward the North Sea. However, approximately 50 minutes into the journey, the aircraft altered course and made an emergency landing back at Manchester Airport at 17:50.

According to a statement from the airline, the return was due to a passenger experiencing a “medical emergency.” Emergency services met the aircraft upon landing.

Passengers Reached Izmir on a Replacement Flight

Following the incident, easyJet cancelled the original flight for the rest of the night and arranged a replacement flight the next morning (Tuesday, 1 July) to take passengers to Izmir.

A spokesperson for the airline stated:

“Flight EZY2159 from Manchester to Izmir on 30 June was forced to return to Manchester due to a passenger requiring urgent medical assistance onboard. The aircraft landed safely in line with procedures and was met by medical teams upon arrival. The flight continued to Izmir the following morning. The safety of our passengers and crew is always our highest priority.”

Ambulance Service Contacted

To clarify the details of the medical emergency, contact was made with the North West Ambulance Service. As of now, no official update has been provided regarding the passenger’s condition.
